civil partnerships

We advise men and women same sex couples as to the legal rights and responsibilities involved in entering into a civil partnership, including pre-civil partnership agreements, and the implications of ending a civil partnership.

If the relationship breaks down, on dissolving a civil partnership the court can exercise similar powers in relation to finances and children as are available on divorce.

When considering entering a civil partnership, if one or both parties have significant or particular wealth then they may wish to seek to protect this in the event of the partnership breaking down by entering into a pre-civil partnership agreement.

A pre-civil partnership agreement sets out what each party’s financial circumstances are before registration of the civil partnership, together with what each party would like to happen to those assets, in the event that the partnership is dissolved.
